Dan Aykroyd was born on  July 1, 1952, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Aykroyd's father Samuel Cuthbert Peter Hugh Aykroyd was a civil engineer who served as political adviser to Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, and his mother Lorraine Gougeon was a secretary. 

Aykroyd is of mixed descent as his mother was of French Canadian descent and his father was of English, Irish, Scottish, Dutch and French descent. He holds Canadian nationality.
