Don Lemon is a versatile American television journalist who is famous for being a host on CNN. He had previously worked for both NBC and MSNBC. He started his journalistic career as a news assistant on Channel 5 in New York City. He joined CNN in 2006, also as a correspondent, and later achieved prominence as the presenter of Don Lemon Tonight from 2014 to 2022. Don previously worked as a news correspondent for NBC on its programming, such as "Today" and "NBC Nightly News". CNN started to pilot prime-time shows hosted by Lemon, including "The Eleventh Hour" and "The Don Lemon Show" in 2014. He has also worked for Fox affiliates in St. Louis and Chicago for several years and was a correspondent for NBC affiliates in Philadelphia and Chicago.

As well, Don is also a recipient of an Edward R. Murrow Award and three regional Emmy Awards. It was announced in May 2021 that Don, along with CNN fellow journalist Chris Cuomo, would launch a podcast named "The Handoff". Moreover, it was also announced on 15th September 2022 that he will co-anchor a new CNN morning show, named "CNN This Morning" with Kaitlan Collins and Poppy Harlow later in the year. After Nikki Haley's presidential campaign announcement, Don said in 2023 that Haley "isn't in her prime" and that a woman is "in her prime in her 20s, 30s, 40s." He apologized for the comments on Twitter, calling his words "inartful and irrelevant".

Don is the son of his mother, Katherine Marie (Bouligney), and his father, Wilmon Lee Richardson. His father was a prominent attorney, who was part of a lawsuit successfully challenging the segregation of public transportation in Baton Rouge. Don has three siblings named Leisa Lemon, Yma Lemon, and L'Tanya Lemon Grimes. Unfortunately, Lemon's sister, L'Tanya, died at the age of 58 on 31st January 2018; police concluded that her death was an accidental drowning in a pond while fishing.

Moving to Lemon's education, he attended Baker High School, a public high school in the town of Baker in East Baton Rouge Parish. Later, he attended Louisiana State University and graduated from Brooklyn College in 1996, majoring in broadcast journalism. While at Brooklyn College, he interned at WNYW.

  • Don Lemon kicks off his journalism career reporting as a weekend news anchor for WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama, and for WCAU in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and became an anchor and investigative reporter for KTVI in St. Louis, Missouri.
  • Then he reported for NBC News's New York City operations, including working as a correspondent for both "Today", and "NBC Nightly News"; and as an anchor on "Weekend Today" and programs on MSNBC.
  • He later started working at NBC-owned-and-operated station WMAQ-TV in Chicago in 2003 and was a reporter and local news co-anchor.

Don Lemon won the award for a special report on the real estate market in Chicago in Emmy Award. He also received the Edward R. Murrow Award for his coverage of the D.C. area sniper. He also won a number of awards for reports on Hurricane Katrina and the AIDS epidemic in Africa. He was voted as one of the 150 most influential African-Americans.
