Kelendria Trene Rowland is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and television personality who is popularly known as Kelly Rowland. She earned recognition as one of the members of the girl band, "Destiny's Child" in the late 1990s. The group produced albums such as the self-titled "Destiny's Child", "The Writing's on the Wall" and "Destiny Fulfilled". Their most successful hit was "Say My Name" and "Survivor" both of which won Grammy Awards. She started her solo career in 2002 and her music transcends across various genres including contemporary R&B, pop, hip-hop, soul, rock, and dance. She has released various solo albums including "Simply Deep", "Ms. Kelly", "Here I Am", and "Talk a Good Game". 

Besides music, Rowland has also starred in various television shows and films as she started her acting career with a recurring role in the sitcom "The Hughleys" as Carly.  She has also appeared as Judge on "The X Factor" in the UK and USA. Kelly won guest roles in "Eve" as Cleo, and in "American Dreams" as Martha Reeves. Her movie debut was in the successful film "Freddy vs. Jason" in the supporting role of Kia Waterson. Rowland was born to a father, Christopher Lovett, and a mother, Doris Rowland Garrison.  She also has an older brother named Orlando Rowland. When Kelly was six, her mother left her father, who was an abusive alcoholic and suffered post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from serving in the Vietnam War, and Rowland went with her. Doris, unfortunately, passed away on 2nd December 2014. Talking about Kelly's academic qualifications, she attended Lamar High School.

  • Kelly Rowland kicks off her career by joining the girl group, Girl's Tyme in 1992 which was formed in 1990. She was the sixth addition to the group along with Beyonce, LaTavia Roberson, Tamar Davis, Nikki Taylor, and Nina Taylor.
  • Girl's Tyme participated in the then-biggest talent show on national TV, "Star Search" but they sadly lost the competition to Skeleton Crew.
  • In 1995, Kelly moved in with fellow "Destiny's Child" member and best friend, Beyonce's family due to family issues.
  • Beyonce's father took over the management of the group and reduced the group member from 6 to 4. Beyonce's father, Mathew removed Davis and the Taylor sisters and added LeToya Luckett to the group. They began performing as an opening act for the established R&B groups at the time.
  • They finally signed a record deal with Elektra Records and changed their group name to Destiny's Child in 1993.
  • In 1997, the group signed a record label with Columbia Records and released their debut song "Killing Time", the soundtrack to the 1997 film, Men In Black.

  • Girl's Tyme released their third studio album, "Survivor" in May 2001, which included hit singles such as "Survivor", and "Bootylicious". The album sold over twelve million copies worldwide.
  • In 2002, they released their remix album, "This is the Remix" as well as announced their temporary break to pursue solo projects in the following year.
  • In 2002, she was featured on Nelly's single, "Dilemma", which became one of the most successful singles of the year. They later collaborated to make its sequel, "Gone" in January 2011.

Kelly Rowland Personal Life: Husband & Children

Kelly Rowland is a married woman as she tied the knot with her manager Tim Weatherspoon. They reportedly started dating in 2011 and in December 2013, she announced on "The Queen Latifah Show" that she got engaged to her manager, Tim. They got married on 9th May 2014 in Costa Rica. The couple has a son, Titan Jewell Weatherspoon, born on 4th November 2014. Rowland announced on 7th October 2020 that she and Weatherspoon were expecting another child in the November issue of Women's Health. She happily gave birth to their second son on 21st January 2021.
