Kemi Badenoch is a British politician who is famous for serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Saffron Walden since 2017. Her political party is the Conservative party. She joined the Conservative Party in 2005 at the age of 25. Back in 2012, she unsuccessfully contested a seat on the London Assembly. In 2015, she was selected as a London Assembly member after Suella Braverman and Victoria Borwick declined their seats upon being elected as MPs at the 2015 general election. She was elected as the MP for Saffron Walden on 8th June 2017 with 37,629 votes and a majority of 24,966 (41.0%) following the retirement of former deputy speaker Alan Haselhurst; she became the first woman to represent that constituency. She was appointed as the Conservative Party's Vice-Chair for Candidates in January 2018. She has also served as Minister of State for Local Government, Faith and Communities and Minister of State for Equalities between 2021 and 2022. After Boris Johnson became Prime Minister in July 2019, she was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families.  In July 2022, she resigned as minister, and following Boris Johnson's resignation announcement, announced her candidacy in the Conservative Party leadership election. She resigned citing Boris Johnson's handling of the Chris Pincher scandal, in a joint statement with fellow Ministers Alex Burghart, Neil O'Brien, Lee Rowley, and Julia Lopez.
