Anthony Jordan Martial is a French professional football player who is professionally known as Anthony Martial. He plays for Premier League club Manchester United and the French national team as a forward with jersey number 9. He began playing football for the youth team of CO Les Ulis in 2001 and played until 2009. In 2009, Anthony joined the youth team of Lyon and started his professional career from there. He made his professional debut for Lyon on 6th December 2012 in a European League group stage match and played his first Ligue 1 game on 3rd February 2013. He moved to Manchester United for £36 million on 1st September 2015, potentially rising to £58 million, on a four-year contract which was the highest ever transfer fee paid for a teenager.

Anthony Martial made his debut in the North-West Derby at Old Trafford on 12th September 2015 and on 9th December 2015, he was awarded the Golden Boy as Europe's best U21 player. He was also the 2019-2020 Manchester United Players Player of the Year. He has represented France at various age levels on the international level as well as he has represented France at U16, U17, U18, U19, U21, and the senior level. Anthony made his international debut in 2015 and was named in their squad for UEFA Euro 2016. Additionally, he was loaned out to Spanish club Sevilla until the end of the season on 25th January 2022.

Anthony Martial Football Career

Anthony Martial began his football for the youth team of CO Les Ulis in 2001 and played until 2009. Then in 2009, at the age of 14, he joined the youth team of Lyon and started his professional career there. 

Anthony Martial made his professional debut for Lyon on 6th December 2012 in a European League group stage match against Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona, replacing goalscorer Yassine Benzia for the final 10 minutes of a 2-0 victory at the Stade de Gerland.

On 3rd February 2013, he played his first Ligue 1 game in a 3-1 away loss against Ajaccio and came on as a substitute in the 79th minute for Rachid Ghezzal. 

AS Monaco

  • Anthony Martial signed for AS Monaco on a three-year contract for a fee of €5 million plus bonuses on 30th June 2013.
  • He made his first league appearance for the club at the age of 17 on 24th November 2013 against FC Nantes, replacing Radamel Falcao after 63 minutes.

  • Anthony Martial moved to Manchester United for £36 million on 1st September 2015, potentially rising to £58 million, on a four-year contract which was the highest ever transfer fee paid for a teenager. 
  • He then made his debut in the North-West Derby at Old Trafford on 12th September 2015 in a 3-1 win over Liverpool, came as a 65th-minute substitute for Juan Mata, and scored the final goal.
  • He also won his first individual honor at United as he picked up the 'PFA Fan's Player of the Month for September, in which he notched up three goals from two matches.

  • On 26th August 2015, Anthony was called up to the senior France squad for the first time, for friendlies against Portugal and Serbia.
